School Leader, KIPP Intrepid Preparatory
Joy Taluyo joined the KIPP Team & Family in 2004. She has served as an assistant principal at KIPP Explore Academy for the last few years, having joined the team in 2011 to help found the school's Pre-Kindergarten program and develop its partnership with Head Start. She has also served other roles at the school, such as teacher, LPAC coordinator, team leader, and dean, eventually going on to coach and develop teachers across the spectrum of grade levels. Prior to Explore, Joy spent 7 years at KIPP SHINE Prep. She joined the SHINE team during the school’s founding year and served many roles, including teaching fellow, lead teacher, LPAC coordinator, ESL Instructional Coach, and Spanish Program Director. Joy holds an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership, Administration and Supervision from National Louis University. She also has a Master's degree in Hispanic Language and Culture from New York University and undergraduate degrees in Spanish and Biology from the University of Georgia. Joy is excited to continue her work with the students and families of the East End community as the successor school leader at KIPP Intrepid for the 2016-17 school year.
- Joy went to the same school from 1st grade all the way to 12th grade.
- Two of Joy’s closest friends are people she has known since she was in pre-kindergarten and first grade.
- Joy lived in Madrid, Spain and went to school just a few blocks from the Real Madrid soccer team’s stadium.
