School Leader, KIPP Generations Collegiate
Amanda Ybarsabal joined KIPP Houston Public Schools in 2016 after 10 years teaching and leading at YES Prep Public Schools in Houston. While at YES Prep, Amanda taught both middle and high school social studies. She also served as a soccer coach, grade level chair, and department chair before becoming a high school principal. With a passion for student leadership and success for all learners, Amanda led initiatives to increase student achievement and provide opportunities for student voice on campus and in the community. After having a baby girl, Amanda joined KIPP at the Sharpstown campus. Amanda earned a B.A. in History and Political Science from Baylor University and a Master’s in Education Leadership and Policy from Stanford University.
- Amanda has met MC Hammer in person and asked him to pretend to be famous (didn’t recognize him immediately).
- Amanda has participated in the Texas Independence Relay three times and completed a 200-mile course with a team of women runners.
- Amanda loves dessert and tries to eat it every day.
