When 3,000 people gather, big things happen. When 3,000 gather for one cause, even bigger things happen.

Saturday, October 18, we hosted our 3rd Annual No Shortcuts 5K Fun Run. Months and months of planning culminated into one day that really can only be described as a FUN run. The morning started at 5:00 a.m. with 175 volunteers filling the University of Houston’s campus to set up tables and tents, create posters, and prepare food. Attendees ran the 5K first followed by a kids’ 1K. Although the day focuses on the running, the other activities always engage our families. Did anyone get their face painted or jump in a bouncy house? What about eat popcorn or fresh fruit?

When 3,000 people gather, major money is raised. This year, more than $140,000 was raised to support our schools! We are thankful for everyone who participated by registering for the race. Additionally, we would like to thank our sponsors who helped make this day and this fundraising goal possible: Luke’s Locker, University of Houston Honors College, Gallery Furniture, Robert and Janice McNair Foundation, HEB, Joan and Marvin Kaplan Foundation, Emerus, Bain and Company, Legacy Health, Fiesta, Kroger, Brighter Bites, Shipley's, A-Rocket, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and Chick-Fil-A.

When 3,000 people gather, a difference is made. The impressive numbers are fun and encouraging to share but the most successful outcome from that day isn’t in the numbers. That day was successful because families came together, relationships were built, friendships were formed, and our schools were supported. We can’t think of any better way to spend a day than by building relationships that ultimately build a better tomorrow. By showing our KIPPsters we are committed to their success as a Team & Family, we encourage them to continue on the journey to and through college.
