School Leader, KIPP Legacy Preparatory
Originally from Compton, California, Monique Payton came to Houston as a founding kindergarten teacher at KIPP Legacy Preparatory School in 2010, where she now serves as Co-School Leader with Mallory Richardson. During her time at Legacy, she held positions as teacher, grade level chair, Dean of the Math and Science, and Lower School Director. She is a Teach for America Corps alumna and holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and a masters degree in Education Policy from Stanford University. Ms. Payton strongly identifies with KIPP’s mission of getting students TO and THROUGH college. She can be found in classrooms working with students, coaching teachers, and holding TRAILBLAZERS to high expectations. She believes that through hard work, focus on academics and character, as well as strong relationships with families and students, our TRAILBLAZERS will graduate from college and become leaders of their community and the world.
