KIPP DREAM
KIPP DREAM Prep opened in 2006 to serve students from the North side of Houston. Olive Hayden-Moore serves the school’s student body of over 800 DREAMsters as their School Leader.
At KIPP DREAM Prep, the leadership team works closely with other professionals in the field to provide a rigorous, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate curriculum to the students at all grade levels, PreK-3 through fourth grade. Lessons are designed around college-readiness and national standards in literacy, math, science, and social studies. A hands-on approach that guides students towards self-discovery and investigation coupled with rigorous questioning and multiple types of instruction allows students to invest themselves fully in their learning and academic growth. DREAM works closely with Rice University through the Rice School Literacy and Culture Project to help students develop their proficiency in reading and writing beginning at a very early age. Teachers receive on-going professional development and feedback from professionals in all areas to support them with best-practice and differentiation strategies to ensure that all of DREAM's students are growing as learners and reaching their highest potential.
Fostering the development of the whole child is of utmost importance at KIPP DREAM Prep. Students are supported in their understanding of DREAM's core values of honor, excellence, and commitment by lessons from their classroom teachers and weekly Team and Family meetings where these values are reinforced. Students are offered opportunities to help each other grow as respectful, committed members of their classroom communities, the DREAM community, and the world at large. The goal at KIPP DREAM Prep is for each DREAMster to blossom not only in their academics but in their relationships to each other and the world.
To round out their experience, DREAMsters also receive comprehensive instruction in music, art, technology, health, and physical education.
To prepare students to function in a global society, DREAM has committed to providing second-language instruction in Spanish to all of the DREAMsters. Beginning in PreK, all students, regardless of background, are fully immersed in Spanish and are guided to become fully functional in a second language. All students receive daily Spanish instruction from faculty members who are well versed in a wide variety of instructional techniques. Consequently, students develop their fluency skills in reading, writing, and conversation in Spanish, as well as English.
