Application Process

We are currently accepting applications and hiring for the 2013-14 school year! We update our website daily, so if you do not see a position that matches your interests, check back frequently.
Before applying, we recommend you read our tips for applying and interviewing, and learn more about teaching at KIPP. Please note that we only accept applications and resumes through our online application system. We do not accept resumes or applications that have been faxed, emailed, mailed, or dropped off at a campus.
Timeline
Applications and resumes are reviewed on a daily basis. If we are interested in continuing the selection process with you, we will contact you within a week of your application to schedule a phone interview. Following your phone interview, you will know within two weeks if we plan to continue the selection process with you.
What to Expect in a Phone Interview
Phone interviews with a recruiter are the second step of our application phase and typically take between 10 and 20 minutes. You will be emailed an invitation to phone interview with some pre-work attached. We ask that in addition to completing the pre-work, you take a few minutes to learn more about KIPP Houston Public Schools and our schools’ values, missions, and locations so you are better prepared.
What to Expect in a School Selection Process
Candidates who pass the phone interview will be notified within two weeks and will continue the selection process with individual schools. While each school’s selection process varies slightly, you should expect to complete an in-person interview and sample lesson or sample observation. Other components of your selection process could include: a second phone interview with a school representative; submission of a sample lesson plan, unit plan, or long-term plan; an on-the-spot writing and data exercise; a school visit; or a panel interview.
Application FAQs
How do I know if you received my application?
You should have received an automatic e-mail letting you know your application has been received. Check your spam folder for this e-mail if it does not appear in your inbox. If you did not receive this e-mail, we do not have your application.
I have already submitted my application online. What else can I do?
We ask that you not contact our schools directly, and allow us to first review your application. The Recruiting Department completes an initial application and phone screen. If you would like the chance to meet with recruiters and leaders, check out our Events Calendar to see where you can meet up with us!
If I haven’t heard from KIPP within one week of my application, am I still being considered?
Generally, no. We strive to contact all candidates whose experience and skill set match the posted job within one week of their initial application. While there are sometimes exceptions (school holidays, inclement weather, an unusually high number of applications, etc.), we are most likely not considering an application beyond the one-week window. If you don't receive a call or e-mail, please don't feel discouraged. We keep all application on file for a year. There are many applicants for each position.
Can you tell me why I was not chosen to continue the selection process?
It is KIPP Houston Public Schools’ policy to not provide feedback on applications, resumes, phone interviews, or in-person interviews.
