Impossible

is nothing.

Overview

KIPP 3D Academy opened in 2001 to serve students from the North side of Houston.  3D currently serves students in grades five through eight and is led by Alison Cumbley. 3D's student population is 88% Hispanic, 11% African-American, 1% Asian, and 95% low income. 3D serves students from the North ZIP codes  77009, 77016, 77022, 77037, 77076, and 77093.

Academics

The success of KIPP 3D Academy stems from the students' and faculty's united commitment to hard work and academic excellence. 3D provides Houston's youth with a choice in academic programs by offering an accelerated instructional curriculum and experiential, student-centered learning. Provided with the luxury of the extended day (7:30 am – 5:00 pm during the week, four hours on every other Saturday, and three weeks during the summer), the students have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of all the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for their current grade, as well as proficiency in many concepts and skills of the successive grade levels. The fifth-grade year is one in which the students learn or review subject matter that they may not have fully mastered in elementary school. Once proficient and on grade-level, these students spend the next three years undertaking a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum.

Culture

Mission

The mission of KIPP 3D Academy is simple, yet powerful: to provide students with the knowledge, critical thinking, and character skills required to prepare them for the rigors of competitive high schools, colleges, and the world beyond. Armed with these skills and achievements, students at 3D Academy recognize an outstanding education as the instrument to achieve personal success. The mission is not easily accomplished; the students of 3D Academy learn that there are no shortcuts to realizing these goals.

Values

Desire, Discipline, and Dedication are the core values of KIPP 3D Academy. The combination of these three principles creates an environment where students are pushed to their full potential both academically and socially. These values, along with a Commitment to Excellence made by each student, their families, and all faculty members, form the foundation upon which 3D students develop into successful young leaders prepared to climb the mountain to and through college.

Desire

Ganas. Passion. Intrinsic motivation. Desire is the driving force that pushes our students through the challenges of a rigorous education. It is the belief that success is a result of hard work and perseverance and that through both, all students can and will determine their own destinies.

Discipline

Self Control. Personal Responsibility. Integrity. Discipline is the guiding force that focuses our students on their goals despite the temptation to take shortcuts and make excuses. It is the belief that although doing what is right is sometimes difficult, all students can and will control their own futures.

Dedication

Commitment. Teamwork. Sacrifice. Dedication is the uniting force that commits our students to doing what is right for themselves, their teammates, and their future.  It is the belief that as a team and a family committed to the collective goals of working hard and being nice, all students can and will build a better tomorrow.
